Not the easiest thing to think of, but what are the riffs that really just blow your mind?

Without giving it too much thought:

Slayer - Raining Blood
Slayer - Black Magic
Judas Priest - Breaking the Law
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Black Sabbath - NIB
Nile - Lashed to the Slave Stick
In Flames - Behind Space
Megadeth - Holy wars
Opeth - Black Rose Immortal (2:18 in. Its killer)

Ahh, to kick some off - don't know that they are THE best riffs, but some kick arse riffs come from the following songs
1. Black Sabbath - Symptom of the Universe
2. Black Sabbath - Lord of this World
3. Black Sabbath - Into the Void
4. Black Sabbath - Hole in the Sky
5. Death - Pull the Plug
6. Megadeth - Wake Up Dead
7. Arghoslent - Rape of a Slave
8. Slayer - South of Heaven
9. Sodom - Bombenhagel
10. Kreator - Pleasure to Kill
11. Testament - Trial by Fire
12. Destroyer 666 - Genesis to Genocide
13. Iron Maiden - Where Eagles Dare
14. Judas Priest - Painkiller

Fuck, too long to continue, but you get the point.

Oohh man... where do I begin..
Paranoid for sure, that riff invented metal. Heaps of Ritchie Blackmore, especially his Rainbow stuff- Man on the Silver Mountain and Gates of Babylon for sure. His deep Purple shit definetly Highway Star. 80's?? Shit man- Metallica- The Thing That Should Not Be fucking owns, and Helloween's Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part I and II are full of power metal riffs that are still being ripped off today. Here are some of the best of the rest....
Celtic Frost- I Won't Dance (the Elder's Orient)
Entombed- Crawl (heaviest shit EVER!!!)
The Lord Wierd Slough Feg- Sky Chariots
Iron Maiden- The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner
Maiden Again- The Clairvoyant
Maiden Again!- Phantom Of The Opera
Metalium- Eye Of The Storm
Iced Earth- The Whole Of "Something Wicked Comes" album
Helloween- Push
Kreator- Blind Faith (fuck add the whole of Terrible Certainty)
Kreator- Dying Race Apocalypse
Children Of Bodom- Bodom After Midnight
Stratovarious- A Million Light Years Away
Darkthrone- Triumphant Gleam
Paradise Lost- Hallowed Land
Gamma Ray- The Winged Horse
Angra- Never Understand
Bruce Dickinson- The Dark Side Of Aquarius
Shaman- Over Your Head
Manowar- Wheels Of Fire
Manowar- Hail To England
Manowar (again??)- Gloves Of Metal
Mob Rules- Secret Signs
And anything off the first 2 Danzig albums, both fucking killer (great drinking music (isn't that another thread??) to listen to on the way to MFTB while sinking some large ones (Like we did last year)

I have to go for some of the oldies but goodies -

Slayer - Raining Blood - Reigns supreme.
Slayer Silent Scream
Pantera - Cemetary Gates
Black Sabbath - Paranoid (one of the first songs I ever learnt on bass)
Iron Maiden - just about everything, but for the puposes of the excercise, I'll stick with Aces High
Burzum - Inn I Slottet fra Droemann
Motorhead - Ace of Spades
Emperor - Inno A Satana - that opening riff
Dark Funeral - Call from the Grave
Anthrax - Taking it Back
Children of Bodom - Best intro bass line
Children of Bodom - Hate Me
Led Zeppelin - Over the Hills and Far Away
Led Zeppelin - Kashmir
Led Zeppelin - Black Dog

As with the rest of you I could keep on going forever.[/list]

Though their later material doesn't do much at all for me, I find Anarazel's first EP to hold some of the greatest riffs ever. FOREVER NIGHT!
