It struck me the other night when I was driving home from work just how INSANELY good the cover Coroner do of The Beatles classic 'I Want You' is. To me a great cover is when a band keeps the original 'feel' of the song buts stamps their own unique style onto it. Coroner do an insane version of this song, the solo Tommy does after the first chorus is one of my favourite solos of all time. Celtic Frost chose to open the epic 'Into The Pandemonium' with a cover of Wall Of Voodoo's 'Mexican Radio' another great cover and favourite of mine (including Tom's trademark 'OOH' deathgrunt). Have you heard the covers that have been done by Cradle Of Fillth? I know they have not released anything decent since 'Midian' but their versions of Maiden's 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' and Sabbat's 'For Those Who Died' are great (Hallowed Sounds incredible done in the dark style with the keyboards). I'm not going to list EVERY cover ever done that I like, I want throw this out and hear want some of you guys favourite cover versions are.
Some of the best-
Realm- Elanor Rigby (THe Beatles)
Vision Divine- Take On Me (A-HA) and The Final Countdown (Europe)
Black Majesty- Six Ribbons (Jon English)
Sodom- Iron Fist (Motorhead)
The most covered song would have to be Accept's 'Fast As A Shark' which has been done (as far as I know, there could be more) by Witchery, Helloween, Dungeon (well it used to get played at every gig I saw at Bexley and in Newcastle eh Tim???) but the best version of 'Fast As A Shark' was done by German band Rage on their 'Trapped' Album.
What do you guys think????????????????????????

Who done the original versions of 'Welcome To The Machine' and 'Millenium'? I'm not familiar with Shadows Fall and I am really only a fan of the first few Fear Factory releases. Metallica had some insane covers, (Crash Course In Brain Surgery springs to mind- has anyone ever heard the original Budgie version? Metallica KILL it!!) but they had done some real suckhole ones as well...

I really like Behemoth's cover of Bowie, 'Hello Spaceboy'. Generally I only like covers if they actually do something creative with them. I don't really see the point in covering something and just doing exactly the same thing as the original.
Worst cover ever, easily CoB's Britney cover, I shudder just thinking about it, esp cos I really like CoB. |

Death - Painkiller (Judas Priest)
Sepultura - Orgasmatron (Motorhead)
Exhorder - Into the Void (Black Sabbath)
I know there are more, but that's all I can think of atm. Although I will say, I am yet to hear a decent At the Gates cover. |
