From São Paulo, Brazil comes a Thrash Metal force to be reckoned with, under the moniker of Chaosfear. This trio of musicians bring us their debut full length album, 'One Step Behind Anger'.
This album is really something special and is without a doubt amongst my favourite metal releases of 2006 so far. Think, Kreator meets old school Sepultura, this album is just full of brutal and uncompromising driving rhythms and raw thrash vocals, with time and enough exposure, I think this band will be a metal icon of Brazil.
The album begins with the track, Hard Time For The Wrong Man, a very brutal and aggressive track that I personally think introduces the album quite well.
Then onto the second track, Incongruous Possession, another heavy hitter, this time with even more aggression and some very memorable heavy breakdowns, including the nice little intro riff that that comes back more than once, a great addition which gives the song a very evil and brooding atmosphere.
The self titled track comes next. This one is a little different, still quite heavy, but more of a mid paced assault this time, with lots of double kick and some very impressive guitar work, but unexpectedly turns into a fast paced Thrash attack.
The next track, Driven By Hate, starts off with a nice and heavy guitar driven riff following onto a facade of slow paced lead guitar creating a very evil atmosphere and follows onto some more aggressive rhythms, a definite standout tracks on this album.
Now onto, Denied Rights, this one reminds me a lot of early Machine Head, it's a bit more melodic than the others in those terms and still heavy as hell and is one of my favourite tracks on here.
Next, Minds Temptation, this one definitely brings me back to old Sepultura, full of speed and some very catchy mid paced guitar parts.
Now, Dust Structure, there's an evident power in this track, that seems to just permeate throughout the solid atmosphere of this track, with lots of fast pounding drums and some solid guitar work.
Last but not least, Detestation Inc., this one is a little different, takes on a different approach than other tracks on this album. With a slow paced clean guitar and distorted guitars wailing over the desolate nature of this track, but with true Chaosfear aggressiveness, this track evolves into a monster of fast paced and punishing guitar riffs with the support of powerful thrash vocals and blistering drum patterns that even make my mouth water.
Fans of old-school thrash a la, Sepultura (pre-chaos ad), Kreator and Exodus, must check this album out. I have heard many new thrash albums that just haven't impressed me much, but Chaosfear have definitely brought my faith back and now I want more.
Standout tracks include, Hard Time For The Wrong Man, Incongruous Possession, Denied Rights and Detestation Inc.
