Passing this band off as generic death metal was, I must admit, a big mistake of mine. After countless recommendations, I finally got myself a copy of Incorrigible Bigotry, and lived happily ever after.
This album is just plain great. It’s brutal, it’s technical, it’s thrashed as fuck, and it’s really melodic. In essence, Arghoslent are melodic death metal, but sounds absolutely nothing like the Gothenburg wave of similarly titled bands. Where In Flames, Soilwork, Arch Enemy and the countless others fail in their stagnation, Arghoslent make huge steps forward in the genre. Providing an onslaught of absolutely killer riffs that make you want mosh like crazy, the overall sound just oozes charisma. There are even plenty of obvious traditional heavy metal influences, which make for some very interesting listening indeed.
Opening up with what is certainly a highlight on the album, “Flogging the Cargo” wastes no time in showing just what this band is about. With so many elements coming together in each song, the ideas seem endless, and each song supplies many great riffs, with great delivery.
The one thing that may get people a bit squirmish about this band is the lyrics. Hate, war and rasism are all discussed openly, and not in a negative way. But the way I see it, if you don`t like the lyrics, don`t read them, because the music makes up for anything you may disagree with.
