| Mick Sultana leaves MORTAL SIN |
Luke Cook from the aussie thrash metal gods MORTAL SIN has posted the following band update direct to HM:
"Hey everyone, After a very successful South American tour we thought it was about time we put our new album to the top of our "to do" list."
"Unfortuneatly when discussions were being had about it Mick has decided to leave the band. This came as a huge blow to us. Mick being the brilliant guitarist and great friend that he is. But we do respect Mick's decision to pursue other things in his life. From all of the Mortal Sin camp.... Cheers Mick! We fuckin love ya man! Thanks for everything!"
"We will be replacing Mick but not for a while. We're writing as a 4 person unit and won't have auditions until the next album is complete. Don't bother making up storys or speculating, which the high school playground mentality of the Sydney scene seems to enjoy. There is no anomosity between us. Never will be. Cheers, Chewy"

| OPETH Back In Oz As Early as March 2010? |
Guitarist/vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt of Swedish progressive metallers OPETH has issued the following update:
"Just got back from the little trek-trippie-trip to Japan and Australia. Had a WONDERFUL time! Japan was awesome!
"We only played two shows, Tokyo and Osaka and both were real nice. We were so jetlagged it was insane; I can't remember ever being that tired.
"Burrn! magazine wanted to have a brief photo session with us right before we stepped onstage in Tokyo. I saw one of those photos and they were quite possibly the worst we've ever looked. Ever! Five faces that just looked like, 'Fuck off, lemme sleep you fucking BITCH!' Insanely funny. To the point where our soundman wanted it signed. I think he's gonna frame it and put it up on his toilet wall. I was also given a prize presented to me by Burrn! magazine as the readers had voted me as the 'Best songwriter of 2008'. Normally I don't care for these type of things, but I couldn't help being happy about that. I actually give a fuck when people like my songs, yes I do.
"Again...a massive 'LOVE YA!' from me to you!

| SLAYER Cancels Adelaide Show Due To Illness. |
SLAYER vocalist Tom Araya was advised by his doctors not to perform tonight's (Sunday, October 11) show at the Thebarton Theatre in Adelaide, Australia due to severe laryngitis. Tom, his band and crew were on route to Adelaide with the full intention of performing but were forced to cancel the date due to doctor-mandated rest.
Co-headliners MEGADETH have confirmed that they will perform an extended set at the Thebarton Sunday night.
The remainder of the shows will proceed as planned, with SLAYER and MEGADETH performing at Challenge Stadium in Perth this Tuesday, October 13, and SLAYER performing a full set — including the classic "Reign in Blood" album in its entirety — at Luna Park Sydney this Thursday, October 15.
SLAYER extends an apology to their Adelaide fans for their cancellation, and ticket holders who no longer wish to attend can obtain a refund from point of purchase.
Commented MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine: "I was saddened to hear that Tom Araya won't be able to perform [Sunday night], as you know, and that they are going to proceed to Perth to wait for us and the last show here in Australia.
"I wanted to be as gracious and considerate of the circumstances as possible, so yesterday I sent an invitation to Kerry King [SLAYER guitarist] to come up and play a song from back when he played with us in the early days.
"I know that it would require him coming here to Adelaide, and that the band has already decided to proceed to Perth, but I sent the invite yesterday, and I was really hoping that we could do something for the fans of Adelaide and so that the SLAYER fans could at least see their hero in action; even if it is with us.
"There is still several hours before the show, and I would love to see Kerry walk through the doors and say, 'Alright, let's play 'Rattlehead'!' However, I think that the time has passed for him to be able to comfortably travel here. I have my fingers crossed though."
"Thanks for understanding, and we will make the best of it either way."
